SATA History

From its origins to the present company SATA GmbH & Co. KG.

1906

The way to the brand

Arthur Haeberle and August Drehmann acquire the department for the production of surgical devices of Gretsch und Cie. GmbH (today: Gretsch-Unitas) in the form of a management buy-out. Arthur Haeberle had been a partner and managing director at Gretsch since the beginning of 1904. An employee of this department and later a member of the board of Sanitaria AG, Ludwig Waelde, had already started an apprenticeship as a commercial assistant at Gretsch in 1902.

1907

Foundation of Sanitaria GmbH in Feuerbach

The newly established company will be relocated to rented premises in Feuerbach. The management consists of Arthur Haeberle and August Drehmann.

1907

Production of product programs

On 25.01.1907 Sanitaria GmbH is founded for the purpose of producing surgical instruments and consumer goods. The so-called lever closure, a bottle closure with spray properties for a cold spray, is part of the product range and is still supplied to the same customer today.

1910

Move to Ludwigsburg

The Sanitaria is moved from Feuerbach to a new building in the Wernerstraße in Ludwigsburg - (company headquarters until 1992).

1911

Production of product programs

8 other partners participated in Sanitaria. One of the new shareholders, Adam Teufel, will also be active as Technical Manager.

1914

„Sata“ is registered as a trademark.

1918

Anton Kreidler participates in Sanitaria as part of a capital increase.

1921

Conversion of the company into a stock corporation.

Members of the board are Arthur Haeberle and Adam Teufel.

1925

Production start of the first spray guns for the paint factory Christian Lechler, Stuttgart-Feuerbach, as a "private label".

1926

First patent: spray gun with two-part air nozzle and elliptical air channels.

1931

Start of the marketing of Sanitaria's own spray gun series SATA LM, MC, MR and P

1932

Resignation of Adam Teufel (Board of Directors and Technical Operations Manager).

Arthur Haeberle is the sole director. Friedrich Bäuchle becomes Technical Operations Manager.

1932

Ludwig Waelde will be appointed to the company's executive board in addition to Arthur Haeberle.

1942

After the death of his father, Anton Kreidler, Alfred Kreidler acquires the shares of his siblings and various other shareholders and thus holds approximately 40% of the company's capital.

1944

Arthur Haeberle resigns from the board.

Ludwig Waelde is the sole director.

1954

Foundation of Sanitaria Versorgungs GmbH as a company pension fund.

1954

Market launch of the first SATA GR model.

1956

Resignation of the Technical Director Friedrich Bäuchle.

1957

Alfred Gänsbauer joins the company as Technical Manager.

1958

Subsequent celebration of the 50th anniversary of the company.

Kreidler buys Mrs. Haeberle's shares from her and thus has about 82% of the share capital.

1958

Ludwig Waelde retires.

Otto Peter Klaschus becomes member of the board.

1962

Alfred Kreidler acquires the remaining company shares.

1964

Otto Peter Klaschus leaves the Sanitaria.

Dr. Dieter Freiling becomes member of the board.

The AG is converted into a GmbH.

1965

Manfred Liphardt joins the company as new managing director after the retirement of Dr. Dieter Freiling.

1968

The first sales representative is hired for southern Germany.

1969

1st participation in the International Motor Show IAA in Frankfurt.

1970

Application for the SATAjet trademark (registered in 1971).

1975

Sanitaria celebrates "50 years of SATA paint spray guns".

1976

Introduction of the first HM1 breathing masks

1980

Death of Alfred Kreidler.

1981

The legendary SATAjet B paint spray gun is introduced to the market.

1981

Change of name of Sanitaria GmbH to SATA Farbspritztechnik GmbH.

Richard Beutelschieß joins as Technical Manager.

1982

75th company anniversary.

1986 - 1990

Relocation of the company's production in several stages to the Kornwestheim industrial estate.

1987

Change of the company name to SATA-Farbspritztechnik GmbH und Co.

1988

First reproduction of a SATA pistol from Taiwan.

1990

HVLP-Technology (High Volume Low Pressure).

1992

Completion of the company relocation with completion of the administration building in Kornwestheim and relocation of the remaining administrative departments.

1995

SATA is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 for the first time.

1998

Albrecht Kruse joins as managing director.

Manfred Liphardt retires after 33 years as managing director.

1999

Market launch of the SATAjet 2000 HVLP.

SATA fights against increasing product piracy. The SATA plagiarism SATEX from Mersin, Turkey, receives this "negative award" as one of the most audacious plagiarisms at the Plagiarius 1999 award ceremony.

2000

Construction of a logistics centre, significant reduction of delivery times.

1990

RP-Technology (Reduced Pressure) complements conventional and HVLP atomisation technology.

Installation of an explosion-proof digital manometer in the paint spray gun.

2002

Another TOP 100 award.

2003

Completion of the so-called "Technikum" as administration building for technical management, construction, export departments, testing and training.

2004

Martin Mangold joins as Technical Manager.

The active time of Richard Beutelschieß as Technical Director ends (consultant of the company 2004-2007).

2005

The new mixing cup system SATA RPS is launched.

2006

Foundation of "SATA UK Ltd" in Newmarket.

Change of the company name to SATA GmbH und Co KG. Purchase of the neighbouring property from Hermann Kittelberger. Expansion of the logistics centre.

2006

Market launch of the SATAjet® 3000 B.

2007

100 year company anniversary.

Expansion of the technical centre including the training area.

2007

Special Edition SATAminijet® 3000 B™ HVLP Century.

2008

Market launch of the SATAjet® 100 B and SATA filter 100 prep product series for filler materials.

2009

Completion of a further production building

2010

Market launch of the SATAjet® 4000 B.

A new special process enables the transfer of photo-realistic images onto gun bodies.

Commissioning of a photovoltaic system with a maximum output of 195.6 KWp.
